Jane Pochon, who was a senior manager with the Westpac bank, has been selected to chair a provisional board for MAMA.

The board is being put in place as part of a shift in the governance structure of the gallery to a company limited by guarantee.

It means MAMA will no longer be a department of Albury Council and is expected to help the gallery attract more donations.

Ms Pochon will head the nine-member interim board which is expected to become the inaugural directorate of the new company.

She is one of three not previously part of the MAMA advisory committee or members of MAMA.

Other newcomers are Sydneysider Michael Rolfe, a former director of the Tamworth Regional Gallery, and Albury publishing director Elissa Baillie.

The other six on the board are Wiradjuri artist Lorraine Connelly-Northey, Albury Business Connect co-ordinator Megan Cullen, former Hume and Thurgoona public school principal Anne Nolan, current chair of the MAMA advisory committee Janet Osborne, Art Gallery of NSW senior curator Isobel Parker Philip and La Trobe University Wodonga campus chief Guinever Threlkeld.

The nine were selected by a panel consisting of Albury Council chief executive Frank Zaknich, councillor David Thurley, human resources specialist Linda Griffiths-Brown and arts sector figure Andrew Cameron.

Cr Thurley lauded the new team which was chosen from 20 applicants.

"I think we've got a very strong board to start on this new way of running MAMA," he said.

Ms Pochon declined to comment when contacted by The Border Mail yesterday, saying she was not in a position to talk but was "very, very fond of the museum".

The stopgap board will now work with a consultant and the council to resolve operational details.

A report outlining governance plans will then go to the council in July.
