Waite played his first match for the Saints on the weekend against North Albury in the reserves.
The 23-year-old had an immediate impact with five goals and among the best.
Coach Jake Sharp said Waite should prove to be a handy signing after proving himself in the higher standard of the SANFL for West Adelaide.
"'Muz' (Waite) is living in South Australia at the moment and is looking to relocate next year," Sharp said.
"He has decided to finish up in the SANFL and join us which is exciting news.
"'Muz' played the first two rounds for West Adelaide but has been on the sidelines since after he suffered a hip injury.
"We can see him adding to our midfield rotations as well as playing on a wing.
"He has got really good speed and endurance, can kick both sides of his body and no doubt will be a handy addition for us."

Waite played 16 matches for West Adelaide in 2019 before last year's COVID interrupted season.
Sharp expects Waite to press for senior selection over the next month as he regains match fitness.
"He has missed a fair chunk of football so we just want to make sure we look after him," he said.
"We will see how his body is feeling after a few matches in the reserves and then assess where our list is at and whether he plays seniors.
"But we won't be rushing him."
The weekend marked the half-way point of the season with the Saints sitting fourth with a 5-4 record.
They will need to claim several big scalps in the second-half of the season to be any chance of snaring a prized top-three finish.
Myrtleford face Corowa-Rutherglen, Lavington, Yarrawonga and Wodonga Raiders over the next month.
