Lijnders said it "felt like the right time" for a change and time to pursue a long-term dream to offer his own subscription weather service.
"I'm sad to be saying goodbye to loyal viewers who have been so generous to me, but on the other hand, I am so utterly excited about launching Weather Matters with Karl Lijnders - as I offer analysis of how the weather will affect you," Lijnders said.
"To Albury-Wodonga viewers, I say thank you.
"Thank you for giving me a chance.
"Thank you for your support and generosity."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Lijnders said his new website, that goes live on Sunday, would "offer an affordable subscription model that taps in to my extensive knowledge and experience, while offering a variety of daily forecasts".
The Canberra resident has a long background in weather reporting, having been involved in the specialty since 1999.
He appears each Thursday on radio 2AY's breakfast show and that will continue.
Prime7 confirmed Lijnders' exit but offered no further comment.
Elly Wicks, who has jointly read the news with Lijnders after having replaced him as weather presenter, has continued to host the bulletin this week without an offsider.
