Ms McKay said the house was technically unoccupied, however there was evidence that people had been living there.
Griffith Police Chief Inspector John Wadsworth said they were appealing to the public for information, given the circumstances surrounding the fire.
"Inquiries are continuing as to the cause of the fire, but in saying that the house was not occupied so we are concerned with how the fire was started," Chief Inspector Wadsworth said.
"The house was not occupied at the time and police want to know if anyone has any information whatsoever. If so, please contact us or Crime Stoppers."
The day prior to Monday's incident, Griffith and Leeton firefighters from FRNSW and RFS were called to a shed fire at Nericon.
Investigations were launched into the Nericon fire, and Ms McKay said there was evidence that somebody had been living in the shed, too.
After extinguishing the shed fire at Nericon, firefighters were later called out to Davidson Place in Collina and were able to prevent the spread of fire to nearby properties.

On July 1, firefighters attended a fire at McNabb Crescent where a massive fire tore through a property.
Ms McKay said they understood that large numbers of people were known to live sporadically in that house.
Wednesday's fire is also the subject of a police investigation.
