Jordan Omuzusi pleaded guilty in Albury Local Court to a savage, unprovoked punch on his former partner.
But the 27-year-old, originally from Sunbury near Melbourne, has escaped a jail sentence over the attack.

Instead, Omuzusi was convicted and fined $1500, paving the way for his extradition to face unrelated charges in the Wodonga Magistrate's Court.
Omuzusi, of Swan Street, pleaded guilty this week to a domestic violence-related charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Magistrate Richard Funston was told the extradition on a Victorian apprehension warrant was not opposed.
Defence lawyer Graham Lamond said that while Omuzusi had a criminal record, there were "no priors for assault".
"It could be a large fine," Mr Lamond submitted to Mr Funston.
"He clearly wants to go sort out the Victoria matters as soon as possible."
Mr Lamond said Omuzusi ultimately wanted to look for work in Albury.
Omuzusi, who appeared in court via a video link to custody, was given a maximum two-year jail sentence in Victoria back in December of 2019.
Police told the court that Omuzusi had "an extensive criminal history" in Victoria and that two breach warrants were out for his arrest.
Omuzusi and the 20-year-old victim were in a 12-month relationship that ended back in 2018.
They had though they kept in regular contact.
She was at her parents' house in Alexandra Street, East Albury, on June 28 when her brother arranged a lift for a female friend.
Police said Omuzusi was in the car that arrived to collect the woman, who then decided she no longer wanted a lift.
He and the victim's brother began to argue, with Omuzusi telling him: "Go back to the bone yard."'
The other man just ignored Omuzusi and walked away.
The victim then told Omuzusi: "Leave it at that, leave it at that."
This angered Omuzusi, who punched the woman to the left eye and jaw with his left fist.
Police said the victim suffered bruising and swelling as a result of the attack.
Omuzusi was arrested in North Albury on July 2.
