Mackie has been sidelined since early May with what he thought was a hamstring injury.
He recently had scans after the injury didn't improve as expected.
Mackie said the scans revealed a more serious injury and that he had partially torn his hamstring tendon.
"I've got a partial tear of the tendon which is a bit more serious than I thought," Mackie said.
"It's a slow healing process and basically a 10-week injury.
"I haven't played since early May and am probably another three to four weeks away.
"I was wondering why my hamstring was taking so long to come good again but at least I now know why."

Despite Mackie not playing since round five the Tigers haven't missed a beat.
They remain undefeated on the top of the ladder after 11 rounds.
Highlighting their dominance, no side is yet to get within seven goals of the reigning premier.
Osborne host Brock-Burrum on Saturday who have been building momentum over the past month.
The Tigers are set to welcome back giant teenager Nick Madden, Sam Stening, Hayden Armstrong and Duncan McMaster.
McMaster has been missing since round five with an ankle complaint and could get the job on an in-form Damian Cupido.
