Cr Poulton said on his morning breakfast 2AY radio show he co-hosts with Albury Council candidate Kylie King on Monday that when first informed about the chosen name, Hyphen, he wondered "how on earth did we arrive at that".
"(But) I thought "i'm not going to judge it, I am going to reserve my opinion until I've got the facts in front of me," he said.
"I've been in the fortunate position to have a few tours in the construction phase and I can safely say not one person I've spoken to has given me a better suggestion for the name.

"Be ready in a few weeks to walk through and go, gee, Wodonga has just hit a further maturity as a city."

Cr Poulton was speaking in his civic role in a dedicated weekly segment to mayors in the region and had not previously done so since being elected mayor after winning a spot on council late last year.
Ms King announced last week she was standing for Albury Council on a ticket with Steve Bowen, who is the latest inductee into the Albury-Wodonga Business Awards Hall of Fame.
Mr Bowen was also interviewed on the show on Monday.
