Melville received the gut-wrenching news last week that he requires an ACL reconstruction after injuring his left knee against Collingwood at Punt Road Oval on July 11.
The 22-year-old had played eight games with the Tigers, along with one for his junior club Wangaratta.
The VFL is naturally a higher level than the O and M, but keen football observers always like to compare the leagues.
"Probably the most obvious difference is just how hard you have to work during a VFL game," Melville explained.

"You try to work hard in all games of footy, but there's an enormous amount of effort you have to put in for every contest."
Prior to suffering the injury, Melville was excited at the prospect of returning to Wangaratta's team to host Albury last Saturday, which was cancelled in the end due to COVID.
