NSW Cross-Border Commissioner James McTavish quashed public speculation border bubble arrangements remained in place to allow NSW residents to participate in sport south of the border, despite being in lockdown until midnight on Sunday.
"I know there may be people looking for the loopholes in the health order to say they can go and play sport in Victoria, but the reality is they can't leave home in NSW," McTavish said.
"While in (regional) Victoria you can play sport, you can't leave home in NSW to play sport. That's the critical factor here.
"The other part is while you can leave home to exercise, there's some restrictions around the number of people you can exercise with the distance you can be outside your local government area.
ALSO IN SPORT:
"You can't play organised sport in NSW, it's not permitted. You can be outside with a personal trainer and be outside exercising with members of your household, but what you can't be doing is playing a game of footy and heading off to Victoria to play footy because it means you've been away from home for a non-essential purpose or without a reasonable excuse.
"I'd encourage them to pretty careful because the fines for not obeying the public health order are up to $5000 for an individual and the Victorian government I suspect is pretty keen to keep non-essential travellers out of Victoria.
"We're hoping that if NSW comes out of lockdown on Saturday night, we'll be good to go on Sunday, but until then, stay at home.
"I genuinely do hope it does because I grew up playing sport and I recognise it's a really important part of community life, but we can't do it at the moment."
