Haley will depart Yarrawonga to lead Rennie in the Picola and District Football League next season, taking the reins from Craig Ednie.
"It came a bit out of the blue," he said.
"I knew about the club just through connections, but I hadn't been out there until a few weeks ago."
The 28-year-old relocated to Yarrawonga last year and has previously played for North Ringwood and De La Salle Old Collegians.
While he now faces the next challenge in his football career, he said he's not feeling any pressure.
"It will all be a bit of a learning curve and I'll learn as I go, but I'm looking forward to it," he said.
"They've got a lot of heart down there, so I'm just looking forward to getting involved with the volunteers and supporters.

"I'm pretty keen to get the season started."
Despite the uncertain nature of the Ovens and Murray season, Haley said he's cherished his time with the Pigeons.
"I had an awesome time there, but when I got the phone call, I just had to put it all into perspective and figure out what I wanted to do for the next few years of my life," he said.
"It was a tough call."
Haley will also play for the Hoppers next season.
