Victoria records 80 new COVID cases, 39 in isolation

67 of the cases were linked to known clusters and 13 mystery cases are still under investigation.

More than 33,900 vaccines were administered and 56,200 tests received.

Yesterday NSW recorded 919 new cases and two deaths, while Victoria recorded just 45 cases.

Both NSW and Victoria are eagerly monitoring each other's situation.

Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley yesterday could not out keeping the state's border with NSW closed even once national vaccination targets are reached.

Mr Foley said the NSW outbreak was 'creeping ever closer to the Victorian border'.

"Given the deteriorating position in NSW I don't think I can rule out further measure being taken," he said of the border closure.

Asked if the border could remained closed even when Australia hits vaccination rates of 70 or 80 per cent, Mr Foley said 'how long is a piece of string'.

"Let's what the position in NSW is when we as a nation get to 70 or 80 percent," he said.

Across the border, NSW is concerned the outbreak in Shepparton and Canberra could leak into southern NSW.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro yesterday told regional media the only way regional NSW would come out of the current lockdown was if health officials approved a council area response where unaffected LGAs could reopen.

He said Albury had a strong case to be released as sewerage surveillance was not showing any COVID in the area.

"We were concerned about the outbreak in regional Victoria and places like Shepparton," Mr Barilaro said.

An announcement is expected to be made today about regional lockdown.
