The decision was made at a board meeting last week.
Operations manager Cayte Campbell said injury prevention was at the forefront of the decision, following the extended period off the field.
"There needs to be some player care," Campbell said.
"We can't go straight into games without some training because there's the risk of injury."

The final date the association is willing to play grand finals is October 3, with the hopes to play one more round before a two-week finals series.
If the deadline can't be met, the season will conclude as it stands now.
It now all hinges on an easing of restrictions on both sides of the border.
"People would just like to have some closure for the season," Campbell said.
