Albury's Black Barrel Barbecue specialises in catering for major events and weddings and has felt the pinch of not being able to trade in its normal capacity throughout the pandemic.
But co-owner Amy Grant wanted to do something about it with a donation of 400 free meals from her American-style, slow smoked meats menu.
Ms Grant recently watched a documentary about the crisis in Afghanistan, which put things into perspective, and she was inspired to give back to people in the community doing it tough in lockdown.
"I was feeling physically and mentally exhausted (about the lockdown) and it seemed to be going on and on," she said.
"Hospitality has copped it really bad, but there's hairdressers that get locked down straight away and tattooists. This lockdown is probably the second any normal business would have had.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We thought we'd offer to give out some free food and that's how it all came about.
"On the post we put on Facebook last week we provided the chance for people to donate so we could serve more than 400.
"We received donations, so we're going to open it up not just to hospitality workers, but anyone who has lost hours due to COVID."
The mobile eatery has a link for people to provide their name, where they've lost work and a meal order on its Facebook page.
Black Barrel Barbecue will set up next to the old Lavington Mitre 10 on Wagga Road on Saturday between 4pm and 7pm to serve the meals.
