The Albury concreter looked at buying a 1965 Ford Mustang, but took a newer model for a test drive in 2019 and hasn't looked back.
After a handful of months behind the wheel, he noticed a host of other Mustangs on the road and was curious to know if there was a club for owners on the Border.
Mr Cross was surprised to learn the nearest group outside of the major cities was in Wagga and he went on to form the Albury-Wodonga Ford Mustang Car Club.
On the first Sunday of every month, the group partakes in a cruise to nearby towns, stops for lunch and returns home.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The September meeting was delayed by a week due to Father's Day and restrictions, but the group reconnected on Sunday and hit the road to Holbrook, with Morven, Culcairn, Walla and Jindera also part of the itinerary.
"There's a few local clubs, but they're either Commodore clubs or Japanese sports cars, there was no strictly Ford club either," Mr Cross said.
"The first event was at Noreuil Park and six turned up and it has grown and grown. I think there's around 27 cars in the group.
"We get some ideas from people when we're on an event about where they would like to go to next or where they haven't been yet.
"Someone might have a friend who has just reopened a pub due to COVID, so we go and support them."
Half of the club's members are Victorians and couldn't attend Sunday's cruise, but Mr Cross has plans for a southern expedition as soon as restrictions allow.
