Rail construction between Albury and Illabo to allow for double-stacked freight trains is a step closer with the reference design phase finalised by the Australian Rail Track Corporation.

Visualisations of the key sites including the Albury station footbridge and station yard, the Murray River railway bridge and Billy Hughes Bridge at Ettamogah have been produced.

"As part of the reference design stage we conducted options assessments for key sites along the alignment and consulted with key stakeholders and the community,' Inland Rail NSW south stakeholder engagement manager Heath Martin said.

"The reference design may change as a result of further investigations, government approvals or during detailed design."
The community can view the designs with an online information session to be held from 11am to 12.30pm on Thursday on the Inland Rail website.
