An Edward River resident has died with COVID-19 in a Melbourne hospital.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District, announcing the death Wednesday morning, said the woman, aged in her 70s, had been diagnosed after presenting to Deniliquin Hospital.
"She had serious underlying health conditions and required transfer to Melbourne where she was admitted to an intensive care unit," the service said in a statement.
"This is the first death in Murrumbidgee LHD linked to the current outbreak, and the second death since the start of the pandemic.
"Murrumbidgee Local Health District extends our sincere condolences to the woman's family and loved ones, and the whole Edward River community."
The woman had received her first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. She died in Melbourne's Alfred Hospital.

NSW recorded 594 new coronavirus cases in the 24 hours to 8pm Tuesday, including one new transmission in the Murrumbidgee region.
"The new case is a resident of Edward River LGA, is linked to a known case and is currently being cared for at Wagga Base Hospital," MLHD said.
The health district has recorded 39 cases in this outbreak in the local government area of Federation (one), Edward River (four), Griffith (one), Hilltops (25) and Albury (eight).
On Wednesday no new venues of concern were listed by the health district. A full list of exposure sites can be found on the MLHD website.
