Wodonga and Northside join forces to make A-grade women's side

But this season they're stronger as one, with the two clubs combining to fill a senior women's team in the pool.

In recent years, the sides have both contributed to filling a development team to take on the other clubs, but this year players in the merged side have the opportunity to play for competition points.

Wodonga water polo club treasurer Jenny Farrington said it's a step in right direction after years of hard work by both clubs.

Farrington was in the Dolphins last A-grade side and is back in the pool this season.

"It's giving our players a pathway so that they can see there's something they can work towards if they want to," she said.

Northside president Natalie Beddoes reflected on how far the Stingrays have come.

"As a club, four years ago we only had five sides and only one of them was a girls under-14s," she said.

"Our club has now doubled in size.

"It's a testament to the whole association in that they've supported us and understood that it's been a challenge."

Beddoes said assistance from NSW Water Polo and the return of past players has assisted in the growth.

Stingrays best and fairest winner Jemma Osmand has returned this season and has taken on the coaching reins alongside Cassie Martin.

The team is made up of around eight Stingrays and five Dolphins.
