The 51-year-old former Sydney Swan led the Roos to the Tallangatta league minor premiership this year and will coach them again in 2022.
But despite a glowing reputation and interest from outside Butson Park, he'd rather slip into the background in 12 months' time.
"I made a commitment to the football club (in 2019) that I would give them two years of coaching," Holmes said.
"We lost a year-and-a-half to COVID and some might say that's two years but not really.
"I have had a club sound me out but my energy is with the Yack footy club and that's where it's going to stay.
"I'll coach the kids; if they need somebody to coach the 17s, the 12s or the 14s, I'll do that but I don't see a long-term senior coaching role for me.
"I'm hoping we can find a good person to come in and take over and take them to the next step again.
"I'm actively looking to be replaced but if that replacement can't be found, I'll give serious thought to going again.
"There's coaches out there who are better than me and will be better for our footy club than me and that's what I'm looking for. If they want my help, I'll help but if they don't, I'll wave the flags or cook pies in the canteen.
"I'm 100 percent committed to what we're going to do this year and I'll give everything I have towards making them better. While I'm in the job, they'll get 120 percent of me."
Will Donaghey, who travelled up from Melbourne this season, is the only confirmed departure from the Roos while talks are ongoing with several potential recruits.

"Culture is number one, full stop," Holmes insisted. "Everything flows off that.
"I've had one bloke via text say 'pay me this much and I'll play for you' and that was the last communication we had. That's upsetting for me, that some people still think that way, that it's a business, not a game.
"You've got people in your community work their arse off to earn that money. People are getting paid, we know that, but it's got to be done the right way and it's got to be shared amongst all.
"I find it hard to get a measurement from last season but I'm incredibly proud of the players.
"I asked them to improve and they did. I'm going to ask them to improve again and I'm hoping they'll respond again.
"I am proud but I'm also very wary that we can't get ahead of ourselves."
