A 13-year-old who threw a tantrum because he refused to fill up the family cat's water bowl then attacked his mother, a court has heard.

The East Albury teenager argued it was his sister's chore, not his, before becoming "agitated and aggressive".
Soon after, he kicked his mother in the back, then screamed at her when she refused to show the bleeding laceration.

Albury Children's Court has been told the boy, who appeared before magistrate Miranda Moody, had various mental health issues.
The boy pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and contravention of an apprehended violence order.
He will be sentenced on January 11.
Police told the court how the mother directed her son to fill the water bowl on November 3 about 2pm.
"No, no, it's not my job, she can do it," he said after his mood turned sour, making several expletive-laden comments about his sister.
His mother pleaded with him to "just get up and fill the water. (Your sister's) doing something else."
The boy got even angrier, kicking his mother's bedroom door and throwing items around the house before picking up a water bottle and spraying this into the victim's face.
When she tried to get the bottle off him, he threw more items at his mother.
He wandered around the Eastern Circuit house "yelling and screaming" and then shoved over a bookcase, spilling everything on to the floor.
The boy kicked his mother in the back when she tried to get him out of her bedroom.
Her fingers were left covered with blood when she reached back to the wound.
