Garry Herbert Schache grabbed the man from the back seat "with force".
The incident, which defence lawyer Angus Lingham said followed 19 years of marriage, resulted in Schache being placed on a six-month community corrections order.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"He was confronted with very serious circumstances, which no doubt led him to act in a way that he has not acted in his 47 years," Mr Lingham told Albury Local Court magistrate Richard Funston.
Mr Lingham said Schache, who pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, "accepts full responsibility" for his actions and was "deeply embarrassed and ashamed" to be before the court.
Mr Funston said he accepted the Thurgoona man was "genuinely" remorseful" and that such "very difficult circumstances" could easily get the better of people, though any violence was unacceptable.
"You're only human. I'm obviously confident you'll never be before the court again."
Police said the victim and Schache's wife went shopping at Lavington Square on December 2 about 11am, having arrived in separate cars.
They returned to Schache's car, got into the back seat and began "fooling around".
Schache then approached the car and opened the back door.
"The accused has grabbed hold of the victim and removed him from the vehicle with force. Once the victim was partly out the door, the accused has punched the victim once to the face."
His nose, broken in two places, bled "profusely".
