The on-air partner of Luisa Pelizzari will be content director and weekday afternoons host at the AM station.
The end of his breakfast stint comes 15 years after he debuted on Border airwaves on Star FM.
"It's been a big part of my life and being there from day one with Triple M on the Border was really notable," Griffith said referring to The River FM 105.7's name change in 2016.
"Definitely it's sad, I'll miss doing the show with Lu.
"I'm happy with what we achieved over our time."
Griffith will be broadcasting from noon to 3pm weekdays on 2AY between talk hosts Neil Mitchell and Tom Elliott who are relayed from Melbourne station 3AW.
"My intention is to make it like a breakfast show in the afternoon with a long lunch type of vibe," he said of the show which will start in February.
IN OTHER NEWS:
With his director's hat, Griffith will have oversight of the breakfast show hosted by Poulton and Kylie King, who is now an Albury councillor.
Asked if he any plans to become a councillor, Griffith joked that maybe he could pursue a place with Wangaratta or Federation before adding he did not have any such plans.
Griffith will replace Dave Brunton who is becoming operations manager for metropolitan stations 2UE, 3MP, 4BH and Magic 1278 which are under the control of 2AY's owner Ace.
Brunton will still be based in Albury.
Meanwhile, 2AY newsreader Paul McSwiney has retired after having been at the station since the 1970s.
He had battled ill-health in recent times after being diagnosed with lymphoma and treated at the Albury-Wodonga cancer centre.
Former Hit FM and Triple M news broadcaster Monique Taylor has joined 2AY as a newsreader, making her debut on the breakfast show last week.
