They had argued about their business then, without warning, Terrence Cocks turned aggressive.
After making threatening comments, Albury Local Court has heard, the 43-year-old punched the victim, 49, to the left side of her head.

She raised an arm to protect herself so Cocks punched her hand, causing severe bruising that the victim said was the result of a "burst vein".
"The victim," police said, "does not recall how many times the accused hit her."
She screamed for help and, after Cocks left the house for a drive in his car, called Triple-0, as did neighbours.
But Cocks was not finished. As his partner waited for police to arrive, he returned to the house and continued to unleash abuse.
Magistrate Tony Murray made clear to defence lawyer Sue Robey his contempt at Cock's offending, which happened last Friday at their home in Olive Street after they bickered about their woodworking business.
He had approached her as she sat on a couch. When he leant over her, the woman told Cocks: "Go away, I don't want you here anymore."
"Ms Robey," Mr Murray said, "(it is) disgraceful behaviour.
"This is just plain abuse.
"Why shouldn't he just go to jail?"
Ms Robey said Cocks, who pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and contravention of an apprehended violence order, "accepts this is a terrible relapse in his behaviour".
She said Cocks remained committed to the relationship with the victim, who attended court in his support.
His two nights in custody, she said, had been "very confronting".
Mr Murray - who praised neighbours for stepping in between the couple during the altercation, at their own risk - said there was "really no indication" before the court to explain Cocks' behaviour.
He sentenced Cocks to a five-month intensive corrections order.
