A driver caught travelling at 179km/h on the Hume Freeway is one of several motorists to lose their licence during the New Year period.

Wangaratta Sergeant Paul Pursell said the 26-year-old Portarlington man was detected at Glenrowan about 5.15am on Sunday.
He had two passengers with him, one of whom owned the vehicle the man was driving.
The car was impounded and the man will be charged on summons with conduct endangering persons and driving offences.
It followed another incident on Saturday morning in which a man was caught driving with an alcohol reading of 0.186 in Wangaratta.
The driver was intercepted on Ovens Street for routine checks about 3.30am.
His car was impounded after returning the reading.

"He will receive a summons to appear at court at a later date," Sergeant Pursell said.
"Two of the things involved in serious injury collisions and fatalities are speeding and drink driving.
"Here are two serious examples of speeding and alcohol readings, which not only put the offenders' lives at risk but other members of the community at risk."
Police also caught a Myrtleford man drink and drug driving on Barnard Street in Bright about 12.05am on Saturday.
The man's licence was suspended and his car will be impounded.
Acting Senior Sergeant Ted Graham said police were pleased with the behaviour of the majority of revellers in the Wangaratta region during the New Year period.
"Generally the crowds were very well behaved around this area," he said.
"There were no serious assaults and as soon as the fireworks finished, most people quickly cleared out and made their way home."
