Monique Adele McKenzie was caught speeding at 49km/h through the site on September 7 last year, when it had a 40km/h limit during school times.
The Wodonga woman had turned left off the Hume Highway off ramp and said she hadn't seen the signage indicating it was a school zone.
McKenzie said the incident, which occurred outside The Scots School, happened during a Covid shutdown period.
"I assumed the school was shut down," she told magistrate Sally McLaughlin in Albury Local Court on Monday.
"At the time I missed the 40 painted on the road."

She later filmed the route she had taken, which she showed to police and the magistrate in court.
She said there was a small yellow sign on the left of the road, but the magistrate noted there was also signage on the right.
McKenzie had objected to the penalty issued to her.
The court heard her last fine was about three years ago, for speeding in Melbourne.
Ms McLaughlin noted the offence before the court didn't involve high speed.
"Clearly what I need to balance ... is the need for safety on the roads," she said.
After viewing the video, she said McKenzie didn't have a reasonable excuse, noting there were "huge painted signs on the road".
"In these circumstances I will dismiss the matter," the magistrate said.
The site has netted more than $1.4 million in fines since being switched on in mid-2019.
More people are caught speeding at the intersection than driving through red lights, with 2592 speeding fines and 1668 red light fines issued.
