A man was seen pouring fuel on the front of the car and lighting it before running away.
Lloyd, 20, was not charged with the arson attack but investigators did seize a large number of items from the home.
The Wodonga Magistrates Court on Tuesday heard three bottles with tea towels and gauze, which are considered Molotov cocktails, petrol, 36 ecstasy pills, two batons, fireworks, gloves, cannabis, a black balaclava and four lighters were seized.
The ecstasy pills were of the same variety found during a different warrant involving another accused person.
No-one had been inside the Gayview Drive unit at the time, but Lloyd handed himself in to police the following day.
He told detectives he had made the petrol bombs to throw at people and protect himself, following an incident a few days earlier.
The incident was said to involve another car fire, and Lloyd said three people had entered his home and assaulted him, with fears they would return.
Lloyd pleaded guilty to a string of charges on Tuesday, with his defence lawyer arguing it had “been a huge wake-up call for him”.
Character references were tendered, but magistrate Ian Watkins appeared to be sceptical of the contents.
“His first reference says he’s not the type of person who normally breaks the law but he’s got 11 pages of prior convictions,” he said.
“They don’t know him too well.”
The court heard Lloyd had marijuana and alcohol issues and his behaviour had escalated in the past year.
Mr Watkins said the matter would return to court on Thursday.
