However, club chairman Darren Yates admits it's a stark reminder of the need for a premium rectangular stadium for the region.

"It's obviously disappointing that we're not able to play the FFA Cup game at our home ground (La Trobe) due to poor lighting and it's also disappointing that we're not able to play such an important fixture like this at a rectangular stadium in Albury-Wodonga," Yates said.

"We're very thankful for the support from Albury Council and Lavington Panthers to provide their facility for the night, however we're all very aware that playing football (soccer) at an oversize oval venue is far from ideal for players and spectators."

"Building a premium boutique rectangular at Baranduda Fields is a golden opportunity for the joint cities of Albury-Wodonga to think big and work together to leverage the recent announcement of the Albury-Wodonga Regional Deal to create this important missing piece of infrastructure in our region."

Yates believes it's "embarrasing" a region as big as Albury-Wodonga still can't easily accommodate for competitions such as the FFA Cup.

"Albury-Wodonga is the 17th largest city in Australia and the only one without a rectangular stadium of the calibre required to host events like this game," he said.

"We compare poorly to smaller cities like Ballarat, Mackay, Shepparton, Morwell, Tamworth, Mudgee, Bathurst and Coffs Harbour. which all have premium rectangular stadiums.

"We shouldn't accept that we are truly a great regional destination until we have this rectangular stadium.

"A boutique rectangular stadium would become a significant economic driver for Albury-Wodonga by opening up opportunities for the region to better host A-League, NRL, FFA Cup, Matildas and NPL matches, Albury-Wodonga Football Association grand finals and major football (soccer) tournaments, as well as other entertainment events such as music concerts, which all provide significant economic benefits to our cities."
