After a positive start which saw them trailing 1-0 at quarter-time, the game gradually slipped from their grasp.
The Spitfires had just one reserve on the bench and it was telling late in the game as Old Canberrans piled on five second half goals to claim a big victory.
Spitfires defender Sherren Rahaley couldn't fault the effort of the group.

"A few recent games in Canberra we've had a really slow start, so that was a key focus and I think we did that really well," she said.
"I think we ran out of legs towards the end, they're a quality side with some strong forwards and they were able to overrun us."
