A MAN has been killed after crashing a Nissan Patrol into a tree in the North East.

The collision scene was found by a passing driver on Barooga Road about 6am on Monday.
The man, who is believed to be aged in his early 50s, had died at the scene.
The incident came during the final day of a long weekend traffic blitz.
Police in the southern region of NSW had caught 34 people drink driving, issued 758 speeding tickets and attended 17 major crashes by yesterday.

The 39-year-old was hit on Myrtleford-Yackandandah Road near the intersection of Carrolls Road.
NSW Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said drivers needed to plan their trips.
"I would like to remind regional drivers that no matter how well you think you might know a stretch of road that crashes can occur at anytime and anywhere," he said.
