A second half blitz from the defending champions saw them run away with the contest, after being locked at nil-all at the break.
Bree Sredojevic broke the deadlock less than 10 minutes into the second half with a clean finish at the near post and the advantage was doubled five minutes later when Jill Scott produced a great run and picked out the bottom corner.
Melrose was on the back foot from there and conceded another to Sredojevic midway through the half.
Scott wasn't to be outdone, adding a second with another well-taken finish on the run to make it 4-0 after 77 minutes.
Melrose threw extra numbers forward late in attempt to find a goal, but the City defence stood tall to see out the remaining minutes.
Maya Davis had Melrose's best chance of the match with a one-on-one attempt in the first half, but it was well saved by Brogan Broadway in goals for City.

"We've had a rocky season with injuries and people being sick, so to play what I think was our best game of the season was a big relief," talented City defender Georgina Cominos said.
"We've all come together and brought what we've practiced at training.
"We're looking forward to bringing our best for the semi-finals."
Cominos said everyone lifted as a team in the second half to deliver the result.
"We struck back on that pressure that they're (Melrose) always good at applying, so we used that and slotted four goals," she said.
While it wasn't the result they were after, Davis was incredibly proud of how far the Melrose ladies have come this season.
"We've taken points off every team this year, so watch out next year. It might be our time to shine," she added.
"We're still a fairly new team and had a fair few girls come back into the side, so hopefully it works out for us."
Wangaratta booked a date with Albury United in next weekend's semi-finals after edging out Boomers 1-0 at Alexandra Park.
