Lavington Clinic, which has been seeing patients on the Border for more than 40 years, will be without doctors at the end of January and will likely close its Griffith Road doors.
Patients were advised of the possible closure via the clinic notice board this week which stated "business reasons" as to why the doctors are walking out.
"Unfortunately due to business reasons, the current doctors are leaving Lavington Clinic," the notice said.
"Unfortunately we are unsure of the future of Lavington Clinic and until it is finalised we are unable to comment.
"Once plans are finalised we will notify all current patients via mail and by advertisement in The Border Mail."
Practice principal doctor Nick Nourse said he couldn't comment any further when asked by The Border Mail on Thursday.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We have our patients interests at hearts but I can't confirm what the future of the clinic will be," he said.
"There isn't much more I can say.
"At this stage all I can confirm is that there will no longer be doctors practising from the clinic after the end of January.
"Any patients with questions or who want to get a copy of their medical records or to transfer them to a new clinic can contact our reception.
"The future of the clinic is undecided at this time.
"We will communicate any updates with our patients when they come to hand."
The medical clinic employs five doctors, three nurses and four reception staff.
It isn't known if the doctors will practise from other clinics after January or if the other staff will lose their jobs.
The late Brendan Pattison, who died in August 2015, was a much-loved family doctor at the clinic for more than 30 years and owned the clinic up until his retirement a few months before his death.
Doctor Alison Palmer is the last remaining long-term doctor seeing patients at the clinic since 1998.
Dr Nourse said he would provide an update once a decision was made.
