Trained at Albury by Ian Livermore and driven by Cameron Maggs, Carla Clare ($3.90) broke the track record in the $15,000 feature.
Last year's Albury Cup winner ran a blistering mile rate of 1:59.3 for the 2582 metres.
She shaved 0.2 seconds off the previous best.
The record was first set by Frosty Warrior in 2003 and then equalled by Sporty Spook in 2016.
Carla Clare was three-wide for most of the final lap and proved too strong late for another Albury pacer in the Brooke McPherson-trained Rusty Crackers ($2.50-fav).

Livermore said his six-year-old mare was hard to place locally because of her rating figure.
"It was an impressive effort to break the track record," Livermore said.
"It's not like she had the run of the race and was three-wide for the last 900m.
"They set a fairly quick tempo early and she has proven before she can get home off a hot tempo.
"She also likes the longer trip and it is the second time she has won over the marathon journey after winning the Albury Cup last year.
"It has been a while since she won but she has been racing a bit out of her class because of her rating figure."
Livermore said he was keen to defend her Albury Cup crown with the Albury feature on February 14.
"I'll find another race for her later this month and then she will contest the Albury Cup again," he said.
