Wind In The Willows, a Revolution Theatre Productions play to be staged in Albury Botanic Gardens will now be postponed to spring, with the new dates yet to be finalised.
Director Chris Pidd said the decision had been a difficult one, but everyone seemed to accept it given the impact of bushfires in the region.
"All we need is one terrible day and we're putting all the actors' voices at risk and of course the audience the same," he said.
"With a week to go, we're not far off being ready to perform it, but it's just simply not worth the risk."
Revolution Theatre Productions said anyone who had bought tickets via the Trybooking link would be contacted to make arrangements for a refund or re-allocation.
Last year the company staged Jesus Christ Superstar and Avenue Q.
