Despite the temperature sitting on only 26 degrees in Harrietville, the transport body has warned "extreme heat" has caused several parts of the Great Alpine Road to be affected by "bleeding asphalt".
"Several stretches of the Great Alpine Road between Harrietville and Mount Hotham are currently affected by bleeding asphalt due to extreme heat conditions and increased heavy vehicle movement," the VicRoads warning said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It is not unusual for hot weather to result in some bleeding of the road surface, where the surface becomes hot and sticky."
"Drive with caution."
Harrietville is due to reach 33 degrees today, while Bright is due to reach 42 tomorrow and 40 on Saturday.
