The plight of the elderly Jack Russell cross, which was sent to the Albury Wodonga Pound and was given a seven day deadline due to the pound's policies, has ended with the dog being taken in by the Wodonga Dog Rescue.
More than 1300 concerned animal-lovers shared a Facebook post calling for the dog's owner, with many putting their hands up to adopt him on the spot.
And while there was some thought the owner might be in hospital and elderly, no one has come forward to collect him, nor has anyone been able to find an owner after multiple calls to local hospitals.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Wodonga Dog Rescue's Peta McRae said she collected the dog on Tuesday afternoon and he will spend the rest of his days with the rescue's volunteers.
While the pound received more than 500 inquiries about the dog, the centre receives a number of animals a week and posts their images on Facebook.
Animals are kept at the facility for 14 days if micro-chipped, seven if they aren't, before they are destroyed or put up for adoption.
