It's the Pigeons' second signing in a week after ruckman Riley Welsh also returned home.
Just an opportunity I didn't want to miss out on, I don't know if that will ever happen again.
- Logan Morey
"There's a few of my mates (including Welsh) that are going back and my partner (Kelsey) and I have a plan to move to Tasmania eventually, where she's from, and with a few mates that I started with at 'Yarra' going back, it was just an opportunity I didn't want to miss out on, I don't know if that will ever happen again," Morey said.
The key defender, who turns 25 next week, has one year left in his teaching degree.
Capable of playing on either a tall or small opponent, the 188cm backman played one VFL game for Essendon in 2017 before joining Coburg at that State level.
Morey played six games with the Pigeons in 2018 before heading overseas.
He spent last year at Murray League outfit Barooga and was set to play there again prior to the season being cancelled, due to COVID-19.
There's no doubt the abandoned season has already added expectation and interest for 2021 with Morey sensing the buzz around the Pigeons.
"Yeah, there is, and the idea of playing with these guys, some of them are my closest mates, that always helps," he said.
Unfortunately for Morey, he only became a permanent member of the senior team after the enormously successful period from 2009-2014, where the club played six straight grand finals against Albury, winning two flags.
The Pigeons missed finals for the first time in 14 years in 2019, on the back of a horror run of injuries, and everyone is desperate for a return to finals.
"Absolutely, I've played in three losing preliminary finals, I'd like to play in the game after," Morey mused.
Yarrawonga fell to Lavington in successive preliminary finals in 2015-2016 before falling short against Wangaratta in 2017, where the Pies kicked four goals in the final 12 minutes to snatch a pulsating 11-point win.
Any loss in the penultimate week is brutal but particularly this one, where the lead changed 16 times.
Morey, of course, is a one-pointer under the players points system.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Logan and his family were huge contributors to the Pigeons from 2014 to 2018. The Pigeons are excited to welcome he and his family back. Morey, along with (Isaac) McMillan, (Leigh) Masters and (Bronson) Schofield, will form the nucleus of a strong rebounding half-back line," the Pigeons said of his return.
Morey could reach the 100-game milestone next year.
