Albury Thunder introduced the shortened version of rugby league and League Tag.
"We're ecstatic really," coordinator Rick O'Connell said.
"For the participants, they haven't had their fix of football, so they're enjoying it and for the spectators, it's a Friday night so it's something to watch and it's a nice family atmosphere with plenty of kids running around kicking the footy."
The Thunder didn't compete in Group Nine this year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
ALSO IN SPORT:
There's five men's teams with a limit of four Thunder first graders per side, while the League Tag has four women's outfits, including the All-Abilities team, the Lightning.
It's a gold coin donation, but spectators are reminded that social distancing rules still apply.
The opening two rounds have attracted strong crowds and with five more games at Albury's Greenfield Park tonight, starting from 6pm, another sizeable crowd is expected.
Round three kicks off with a League Tag game between We Try-ed and Chippy's Angels.
The grand final will be played on December 4 with the top two in each competition contesting the decider, with another game as the curtain-raiser.
