A spokeswoman said the matter was being investigated.
"Officers from Murray River Police District established a crime scene and will investigate circumstances behind the fire that is being treated as suspicious," Senior Constable Meagan Knight said.
EARLIER: Police remain on the scene of a house fire in North Albury.
A vacant home on Kurnell Street was gutted by flames about 12.30am on Saturday.
Officers are outside the property awaiting forensic investigators.
Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Frank Finlay said the fire had been "fierce".
It burned with such intensity that the roof collapsed a short time after firefighters arrived.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It was a derelict house, no persons were at home at the time and there were no injuries," he said.
"Firefighters took on a defensive firefighting strategy due to the intensity.
"The roof collapsed within minutes of us arriving.
"Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to adjoining properties."
Crews stayed on scene for about two-and-a-half hours.
"Fire and Rescue NSW are working with police to determine the cause and the origin of the fire," Superintendent Finlay said.
