Police were alerted to the incident about 1am on Thursday.
They were told the victim was approached by an unknown man before the incident.
The offender attacked him and rode away on the mountain bike, which was dark blue with fluorescent yellow branding.
The victim walked to a service station on Wodonga Place and emergency services were contacted.

He was treated at the scene for lacerations and swelling to his head, face and hands, before being taken to Albury Base Hospital.
Officers from Murray River Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The attacker was Caucasian, of thin build, wearing a dark hooded jumper and dark pants.
