PREVIOUSLY:
COVID-19 testing facilities are being set up in Mount Beauty after routine wastewater testing detected viral coronavirus fragments in the region.
The Victorian Health Department said a 'weak detection' of COVID fragments occurred on February 1 which has now been confirmed following further analysis.
A testing facility is being set up at Tennis Court Drive in Mount Beauty.
A weak detection of the virus in wastewater could be from an active infectious case or caused by people who have recovered from COVID-19 continuing to shed the virus.
The department urged anyone who lives in or was visiting the Mount Beauty, Tawonga and Tawonga South area from January 26 to February 1 to get tested if they have any symptoms.
Wastewater samples are taken at least weekly from 95 wastewater monitoring locations across Victoria, including 70 wastewater treatment plants, for early-warning of coronavirus.
IN OTHER NEWS:
On January 11, Victoria Health's wastewater monitoring detected viral fragments in Mount Beauty which were later inconclusive and not confirmed by further analysis.
Although confirmed COVID-19 viral fragments were discovered in wastewater in Benalla last November, no additional cases were found in the region.
However, positive viral fragments were found in Kilmore and Shepparton last year just as active cases were confirmed.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath and loss or change in sense of smell or taste. If you are experiencing any symptoms, wear a fitted face mask when you get tested.
The department is publishing expected wait times at testing sites as well as updated information about locations and hours of operation at: www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/where-get-tested-covid-19.
