Smouldering cigarette may have sparked fire outside unit

Firefighters were called to the Klose Street home about 6.45am on Monday.

The blaze started on a second storey balcony at the home and appeared to have spread towards the outside of the roof.

Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Frank Finlay said the fire was contained to the outside of the unit.

IN OTHER NEWS:

"It was quickly extinguished using one fire hose," he said.

"There was no further damage to the unit, just minor smoke damage.

"Crews were on scene for approximately 30 minutes."

Firefighters were also called to a car fire on the Hume Highway on Sunday night.

Crews were alerted to the incident, in the northbound lanes about two kilometres north of Borella Road, about 7pm.

The car was well alight when firefighters arrived.

They remained on scene for about 30 minutes.

The blue SUV was badly damaged.
