A final quarter blitz from the hosts saw them pile on five goals to one to charge to victory.
The Spitfires competed well in the first two quarters and absorbed plenty of pressure from Wests, but the hosts managed to find the back of the net twice.
Quarters three and four were a little different with the Spitfires' lack of fitness a factor.
Patrick Baine was forced to make numerous saves throughout the half as Wests finished with a further six goals, while Kurt Beath converted one for the Spitfires.
ALSO IN SPORT:
It had been three weeks since the Spitfires' last game and coach Shayne Newell knew it would be tough.
"Attendance to training over past weeks has been very poor and to go up against a side like this so unprepared was not the best scenario," he said.
"The players are aware of what is required and now must work hard to turn the game around."
Baine, Noah Erdeljac and Tim Jones were the Spitfires' best.
