Jarrad Craig Jervis lost control and began punching the other automotive student, a 31-year-old man who pleaded: "Why is this happening? I don't even know you."
Jervis didn't break a beat, continuing to hurl punches at his victim.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"He's got a very serious criminal history," magistrate Richard Funston said of Jarrad Craig Jervis in Albury Local Court.
Jervis pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, then defence lawyer Mitchell Brooks immediately asked for an adjournment to allow for the preparation of a sentence assessment report.
Prosecutor Sergeant Andrew Coombs said the attack by Jervis happened against the background of the 29-year-old still being subject to intensive corrections orders.
The court considers an ICO to be a jail sentence, but one served in the community.
Police told Mr Funston that Jervis, who works part-time washing trucks, and the victim attended the automotive class at Albury TAFE in Poole Street.
They had only known each other since the classes began a few months before the incident on May 21.
They did not associate outside of the course.
The court heard how the victim, with a friend, went to the campus cafeteria about 10.40am that day and got into an argument over a door that Jervis slammed.
The victim then left the canteen and returned to the classroom, where soon after he and Jervis argued yet again.
"Why did you dob me in?" Jervis asked the man, who replied: "Because we saw you slam (the door) open."
An angry Jervis grabbed the victim by the shirt and threw him to the floor.
He sat on top and threw a punch at his face, forcing the man to defend himself by holding up his hands, by grabbing Jervis's hands and through pushing his feet into his assailant's stomach.
Jervis kept throwing punches, leaving the victim bruised and bloodied from blows to his forehead, nose and lip.
He got off the man and returned to his chair; his victim stood up, left the classroom and reported the assault to the campus counsellor.
Jervis will be sentenced on August 30.
