Wodonga Council accepts Dan Murphy's bottle shop objection petition

Cr Libby Hall said on Monday night she shared the community's frustration in also only learning of the project on the corner of Elgin Boulevard and Smythe Street, a site previously identified for a cinema, via the media.

"No discussions were had about or mentioned about a new master plan proposal or Dan Murphy's planning application," she said.

"I find this lack of consideration towards elected community representatives disappointing.

"We should have been given a bit more respect in that regards.

"It questions again how council deals with these processes.

"I thank the community for their feedback."

Council chief executive Mark Dixon said the application had been paused pending community consultation to be carried out by Development Victoria.

"I think we've all learned a lot of lessons through this process," he said.

"It is the applicant who has put the application on pause.

"We are making (Development Victoria) fully aware of our expectations of them to do the community consultation properly and they are committing to do that.

"They've recognised, with hindsight, that they should have done community consultation to the changes on the master plan first and foremost.

"It is going to be some time before this comes before council."

The revised master plan and Dan Murphy's bottle shop proposal will both come to council after initial fears the revised master plan would be done under staff delegation.
