The ABC station will air a Gippsland-based Victoria-wide show from 9am to 11am weekdays next year, replacing Wodonga-based Sandra Moon and Alice Walker.
Moon's breakfast show will continue prior to 9am.
"The disappointing announcement from the ABC to reduce local programming across our region is a terrible idea," Dr Haines said.
"ABC Goulburn Murray provides reliable, quality programming that reflects the issues and interests of our community, and we have seen over and over again, from the bushfires to the local COVID-19 outbreak, how much those extra hours of local programming are needed."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Wodonga-based federal minister Bridget McKenzie said the ABC spent "big to protect its city-based celebrities but when it needs to find cost savings it is regional radio that pays the price".
The ABC says no jobs will be lost and the move has been prompted by less people listening to live radio and a shift to digital content.
The change comes as ABC Goulburn Murray prepares to celebrate its 90th birthday having begun as 2CO in December 1931.
ABC Riverina radio will continue its Wagga-based breakfast program hosted by Sally Bryant through to 10am in 2022 before switching to NSW-wide programming.
