Hundreds of Albury Wodonga Cancer Foundation care bags for cancer packed by volunteers

The Albury Wodonga Cancer Foundation launched its cBAG (care bag for cancer) and cPLAN in 2019 and it has continued to grow with another 750 put together by members of The Rotary Club of Albury and Bravehearts Dragon Boat Club among others.

Cancer Care Support Australia chair Cristy Jacka, who lost her husband, Karl, to cancer in 2017, and vice-chair Jenny Jensen, who's son, Ricky, died from leukaemia in 2009, said it was amazing to see the legacy of "their boys" live on.

"Our thought was to give people diagnosed with cancer a sense of a community hug," Mrs Jensen said.

The bags contain several samples which may aid someone going through a cancer battle, as well as comfort items in the shape of a cross, bird and heart to help patients focus on something beyond the disease.

A key resource of the cBAG is the cPLAN, a planning folder which Ms Jacka developed when her husband went through the journey.

"We were forever losing paperwork, it would be in your handbag or in the car and everywhere you go," she said.

"It's been pre-designed it so it can be used for any medical condition. It can keep all information about medication, appointments together so you don't have to worry about it."

The group distributes 1500 cBAGs annually and have plans to make the resource available across Australia and internationally.
