Written submissions increased from 630 to 802 while requests for private sessions to speak with a commissioner more than doubled, rising from 60 to more than 150.

Albury-Wodonga advocate Wayne Taylor, of Hume Veterans Information Centre, had previously described the examination as "tricky" because of the many issues involved.

"An aspect I hope they'll pick up on is the discrepancies between the Acts, because that will often cause mental trauma to a veteran," Mr Taylor said last week.

Commission chair Nick Kaldas thanked the participants who shared their experiences and encouraged others to do the same.
