Samuel Thomas Dobbs carried out the robbery, of a 600-millilitre bottle of soda, at the Schnitz restaurant in Kiewa Street, Albury.
The incident, Albury Local Court has been told, took place back on June 3, between 11.30am and 11.40am.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Dobbs pleaded guilty over the crime, through defence lawyer Jaimee Simonsen, to a strictly indictable charge of robbery while armed with an offensive weapon.
The now 32-year-old, appearing via a video link to Junee jail, must front the District Court in Albury on February 11 to have a date set for sentence.
Several other charges will also travel to the District Court, including common assault, intimidation and multiple counts of larceny.
Dobbs is a serial shoplifter who earlier this year received his fifth jail term, that time for pinching three adult magazines from the Caltex service station in Wodonga Place, Albury, just days before the armed robbery.
That act in turn breached a sentence imposed on him for the theft of a $48 bottle of Irish whisky from Dan Murphy's on May 6.
He got a three-month term for those offences.
But Dobbs was immediately released from custody as he was required to serve the sentence by way of an intensive corrections order in the community.
His offending in June included stealing two three-packs of lighters valued at $11.50 from The Reject Shop; stealing a $15 meat cleaver, later used in the robbery, from Kmart; and, a $60 theft of lollies from The Gardens Cafe, also in Albury.
Dobbs remains in custody.
