Cr Baker said he did not have the numbers to win against Cr King.
"I did bit of a count up yesterday and I think in light of me not having the numbers I think it's better the new mayor is elected unopposed," he said.
"That's the way i'd like it if it was happening to me."
Alice Glachan said on Sunday she had not decided if she would nominate to be mayor or deputy.
Councillors can nominate at any time in the lead up to the meeting.
