Senior Sergeant Doug Incoll said police had been notified Friday night of welfare concerns for a 30-year-old Melbourne woman.
Inquiries established she was in Federation Hut at Mount Feathertop, with police making contact via other people.
"We were confident she was safe and warm in the hut," Senior Sergeant Incoll said.
Federation Hut is about three kilometres from the mountain's peak.
"Today it's probably about 300 metres above the snowline," he said.
