A man accused of murdering Gerogery man William Chaplin 10 years ago made a rare appearance in Albury Local Court on Tuesday.

He fronted court via a video link to jail, where he has been held bail refused ever since his arrest and extradition to NSW from Queensland in September.

The 25-year-old's only comment, after removing his cap, was to confirm that he was the accused.
While his appearance was before the Local Court, he cannot be identified as he was a minor, aged 16, at the time of allegedly committing the crime.
Director of Public Prosecutions representative Aaron Thomas said a charge certificate on the murder count would be filed with the court at the accused's next court date of April 14.

In another major criminal case before the court on Tuesday, a boy, 16, declined to appear via a video link to jail on an attempted murder charge.
The accused is one of two boys charged after a girl was found inside a burning Swan Street house on November 11 in a "semi-conscious state".
The case was adjourned to March 17, again for charge certification.
